Rats are a major menace for households across the world. Here are some methods through which you can deal with the menace of rats in your house.

You can make use of electronic measures for driving them away from your house. These methods employ ultrasonic rat repellent devices that emit sounds of very high frequencies to deter rats. Neither human beings nor household pets can hear these sounds and they are thus safe for use in homes.

One can also use organic rat repellents for eliminating rats from the house. These include use of small tablets or tiny granules that emit a scent of predatory animals that feed on rats. They can be spread evenly across the house, in the backyard, garage and any other place that is frequented by rats.

You can also use moth balls as their strong odour can act as a repellent for the rats and keep them away. These can be placed at the nooks and corners of the home for better results.

One of the methods that have been in practice for a long time now is the use of mechanical traps, often called wooden snap traps. These traps are cheap and easy to place, but they have to be laid with appropriate bait. But, they have to be placed away from children and household as they can hurt them. One problem with snap traps is that they can trap only one rat at a time. Yet, it is a better choice as it is safer than the chemical products that are usually toxic and thus harmful.

A glue board can also be used to trap and kill rats. A glue board can be made quite easily by taking a wooden or cardboard plank and smearing a lot of sticky material on it. The board can then be laid at specific places after placing bits of food as bait for the rats. When rats reach for the food, the glue sticks to them and they can’t get off the board. This finally results in their death by starvation.
