Deciphering the Cost of Plastic Surgery

There is more to determining plastic surgery costs than one might initially believe. The main determinants to the cost is the part of the body to be treated, the type of procedure, the technique used and the geographical location of the clinic. Basically, the larger sized areas will cost more because it usually takes more work. The type of procedure to be performed and the technique determines what equipment might be necessary which will influence cost. All these costs are relative to other clinics in the same geographical location because the prices depend on the cosmetic surgery market in the region.

Larger body areas will cost more than smaller areas. It might seem obvious but it is the effort and time required of the surgeon that patients are being charged.

Having multiple areas being worked on at one time will save money. Whenever possible, it is a good idea to combine multiple treatment areas into one session. This is to save on the preparation and setup of the surgical equipment and facility.

There are many different plastic surgery procedures and each one will differ in cost from another. The procedures can be grouped by likeness since similar procedures will be priced similarly and are usually based on the complication of the technique involved.

Large scale operations will required the patient to be fully sedated with general anesthesia while patients of smaller treatments will only need local anesthesia. The difference in anesthetic dosages make up a big part of the final cost of surgery. General anesthesia and other high dosages will require an anesthesiologist to administer the drug which will raise the anesthesia fee.

The surgeon fee is the price most often quoted and advertised since it is consistently an item across every type of plastic surgery procedure. There are many charges that the clinic will pass onto the patient in the form of various fees. The overhead charge for the use of the surgical equipment and room will be charged as a facility fee or hospital fee. Anesthesia will cost most patients approximately one thousand dollars. Different types of tools and equipment required will be included in the facility fee as well.

It is important to learn as much as you can about the plastic surgery risks before trying to shop for low cost plastic surgery.
