Besides The Sea In Rhode Island Craft Fairs

Rhode Island has been called the ocean state: And for good reasons. It is, as the name states, Rhode Island. The name itself projects an image of the sea. Because of this, it is a bit ironic that the State is not really an island as the name blatantly is. It is actually a part of the mainland that is close to the sea.

The crafts you’ll find around Rhode Island will inevitably be inspired by the sea. Either we make objects that are based on sea creatures and wonders, or we make it from things that are actually found underwater. Really, it is just something we are naturally attuned to. And what’s not to like about the sea? It’s soothing and many people have good memories about the time they were on the beach.

But, it has become a bit of a clich?, unfortunately. While the water is fine and excellent for inspirations, when all the crafts ever made is based on water, their value is somewhat lessened. I say to my fellow craftspeople around Rhode Island, I suggest that you try to draw your inspiration from somewhere besides the sea!

There are a number of creative people around Rhode Island over the centuries. Chances are good you live in a stone-ender sort of house; wherein one of the four walls is occupied by the chimney. This design is unique to Rhode Island, as it keeps the home warm and toasty for the cold winter nights. Strive to follow this sort of ingenious thinking.

But do not feel too bad if your main inspiration is still the sea. I must admit the sea is an amazing and wonderful muse, with waves, sand and surf as well as the alien world beneath. I’m just saying that there are other places to get inspiration from.
